PROJECT INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION

In recent years, footwear companies have been experiencing a change of trend in their production model, going from manufacturing many units of a few models to producing very large collections of a few units. This is due to the fact that customers are increasingly betting on a differentiated product, with which they feel identified and which fully adapts to their preferences. For companies, this means intensifying the design processes, employing substantial resources of all kinds to develop collections. It is also necessary to manufacture a high volume of physical samples to validate the prototypes, which end up being discarded, with the resulting environmental impact. The solution to this problem lies in the digitalization of the design and prototyping processes through innovative solutions that allow working with the level of realism that the industry needs. For this reason, INESCOP is working on the development of a web platform for the combination of materials on 3D virtual models, equipped with a photo-realistic visualization system that facilitates collaborative work, synergies with material suppliers, and promotes eco-design. This is a completely innovative solution since there are currently no footwear configurators specifically designed for collection design. The overall objective of this project is the development of a web platform for combining materials in 3D virtual models of footwear, allowing a collaborative, shared and categorized use of materials. The platform will integrate a visualization engine that realistically reflects the properties of materials, including those of a complex nature such as transparency and translucency.

Impact

Environmental impact: through the use of eco-design tools, it is expected to reduce the amount of footwear waste. Economic impact: it is expected to increase the efficiency of the design process, thereby reducing the use of natural and economic resources and improving product quality. Social impact: a synergy between suppliers will be generated, thus energizing the social economy and empowering the consumer.
