Integrated Catalytic Recycling of plastic residues into added-value chemicals
EU Horizon 2020 program, within the SPIRE initiative.
The main objective is to promote and encourage plastic recycling in Europe. The project will analyze the profitability and energy efficiency of a large part of the plastics from urban waste that are not currently being recycled, and will build a pilot plastics recycling plant with the aim of generating new raw materials with high added value for the industry, beyond biodiesel, the main product that is currently extracted from this type of facility. As part of this research project, heterogeneous mixtures of plastics will be converted into value-added chemical products through chemical routes comprising consecutive stages of catalytic and separation processes. In addition, iCAREPLAST aims to test the complete technology for the valorization of plastic waste in a pilot plant capable of processing more than 100 kg of plastic per hour.
