PROJECT INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION

Supports in metal additive manufacturing technologies serve the function of heat dissipation so that the processed material does not exceed the boiling temperature. Therefore, the supports are sacrificial geometries involving high production and post-processing costs. Therefore, minimizing supports or even eliminating them would go a long way toward making metal additive manufacturing more competitive.

Impact

The SUPPORT-ZERO project - Evolution of the thermal process in metal Additive Manufacturing Technology for the minimization of supports through physical and analytical analysis of the process - aims to reduce and even eliminate the need to manufacture supports in metal Additive Manufacturing Technologies, by obtaining a method that correlates the geometry of the parts, the energy provided and the conductivity of the material.
