DESCRIPTION

The main objective of the ULTRALIGHT project is to develop an ultralight magnesium or aluminum-based alloy that is compatible with processing by the high-productivity additive manufacturing technology known as electron beam melting (EBM). The project will manufacture the raw material, obtain the process conditions and characterize the material processed with this technology. This project aims to provide industry with a highly productive way to produce ultralight parts by additive manufacturing, which has advantages for multiple sectors.

Impact

Obtaining the optimum manufacturing parameters of a structural ultralight alloy to obtain dense or massive parts - Achieving mechanical properties comparable to those obtained by conventional manufacturing processes (forging). - Microstructural characterization of the processed alloy in comparison with those obtained by conventional techniques to check the suitability of the previously obtained specifications. - Manufacture of simple geometry samples (cubes) to ensure repeatability and reproducibility of process parameters.
