DESCRIPTION

The project is based on the need to investigate and propose industrial methods to improve productivity in insect biofactories. The proposal focuses on the eventual stages of triage and quality control by focusing on two particular cases: the sexing of pupating tiger mosquitoes in a flow of moving water, and the detection, for quality control purposes, of adult female tiger mosquitoes in release containers. The main objective of this project is to propose, investigate and implement a series of Industry 4.0 techniques to be applied in the mass rearing of insects in biofactories. In particular, the focus will be on what would be a triage stage. A particularly difficult and useful case is the male/female triage, or sexing, of mosquitoes for the application of the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), therefore, this will be the case of application of the project. The chosen case of application is the Aedes albopictus mosquito species (tiger mosquito).
